Today Russia celebrate Day of astronautics!
On 12 April 1961, Gagarin became the first human to travel into space in Vostok 1 and return.
Monument to «Subjugators of space». It is opened on October, 4th, 1964. Height of 100 meters, weight of 250 tons, it is reveted by titanic panels thickness of 1.5 mm. In the basis the Memorial museum of astronautics is located.

Looks like a very great sculpture!
It was an amazing accomplishment back then. If Russian adopted Capitalism with the same fervor it adopted Communism years ago it would probably land on Mars in about ten years.
